Recirculation can reduce the purge time at fixtures far from the heater. Actual performance depends on the loop or crossover design, controls, pipe length, insulation, balancing, heater capacity, and use. It can reduce water sent down the drain while waiting, but continuous circulation can increase heat loss and pumping energy.
